Author Topic: Are energy drinks really that bad for you?  (Read 2800 times)

Energy drinks can possibly stun growth in some people under the age of about 18-19.

I've been drinking energy drinks since I was about 8 or 9. I had a stint of about 2 a day every day and now, 10 years later I'm still knocking back Monsters and my health is perfectly fine.
Well, at least for some people...

oh so all them reports we hear about every month are just fake. crazy kids who down 4 tall cans within 10 min and get sent to hospitals are just jokes.

no one is claiming its a common thing. but no one needs a whole can of caffeine in a single day. its just ridiculous. if you even need caffeine to get by on energy in your day, you already arent living healthy.
he said dropped dead. i was arguing against that

anyway, what should i do about this?
Argue with my mom and get ungrounded or what

Do not argue

Deal with it, as in, just settle the dispute.

Hi OP, read my post because I likely know what I'm talking about.

Energy drinks, while not always the healthiest, aren't necessarily life-threatening unless taken in extreme quantities.  Even then you would just have an extremely high heart rate and blood pressure through the roof which is only bad if done repeatedly a lot over time or if you have circulatory problems.

If you have to wake up and go to the airport for a flight at 4 AM, that's when something like an energy drink would be useful so you don't fall asleep at TSA.  However you don't need it on a daily basis and drinking one once in a while is not going to kill you.

They've been given a bad rep mainly because kids just abuse the stuff out of them and also because of 4loko or whatever it was called, which was pretty much a heavy alcoholic drink mixed with energy drink.  If 4loko was drunk in large quantities the alcohol would have supposed to knock you out as per getting drunk normally does, however the energy drink part of the 4loko keeps you awake and therefore more susceptible to stupid drunken behaviors and/or alcohol poisoning.

If your mom is this upset about it tell her to consult a doctor.

Also this.  The only times I drink coffee are when I need to wake up and haven't gotten much sleep.  I drink it maybe once or twice a month.

Sums the topic up pretty much, Skate's only problem is his mother which I think he should let go and not drink anymore, or like Nick said: "They've been given a bad rep mainly because kids just abuse the stuff out of them and also because of 4loko or whatever it was called, which was pretty much a heavy alcoholic drink mixed with energy drink."

Tell her that, maybe you can get something out of her.

She knows what trolling is and know how to joke around so yeah she's fine with that, plus she's always told me to never care about what others think, she strongly follows that

I once drank a Red Bull because I was really tired, was even more tired after that. :p
I've drank energy drinks couple of times, but I don't feel anything different, besides they taste like some cheap bubble gum. Plus, they are really horrible for your body if you drink them like every day. I don't understand people who drink them like every day just to wash down their lunch.

I dunno, I drink them all the time, they don't affect me, I just like the flavor. The main downside to them is the insane amount of sugar in them as well as caffeine. When it comes to how it affects your body, it's all dependent on the persons ability to hold sugar rushes down and caffeine highs.
