Bushido: i just had a neat idea
Bushido: what if there was a Blockland News Blog
Bushido: [tenative title]
Bushido: where players submit their OWN reports on their OWN servers (or just things they like)
Bushido: and then a small group of admins simply make sure that they aren't reporting something offensive or balls-crushingly stupid
Bushido: maybe have a Priority lineup
Bushido: very useless / unnoticeable newscasts could have very little priority
Bushido: while very high-profile or alarming newscasts could shoot right to the top

this could work pretty well with RTB

incidentally, the cmen chat is very obliging to walls of texts at 10 in the morning

I agree to an extent.

Interesting idea and fairly simple to implement.

Could we also add RSS Feed to and from this?

Why not?

Cool.

I think the hard part is the moderation of articles. I don't want people just spamming them.

If people's first couple of articles have to be approved and spammers are IP-banned I think that should cover most of it. However, a couple of moderators would probably be needed.

I was thinking of starting my own blog focused on more of mod modification, game updates, and that instead of drama and server stuff. Then I got Mr. Wallet to view it, and being the critic he is, he pointed out a good number of problems. I'll end up delaying any public announcement so I can work on my Journalism skills.

But yeah, a couple would be nice. They can also check for quality.

I think people who know quality writing should be moderating the blog.

it doesn't have to be QUALITY, it has to be newsworthy

it's not so much the quality of the article as it is the quality of the news itself, you see. something that most people would actually regard as 'stuffty' like a knife DM or something involving 'cna i b te doge??!1!/' would have very low priority, while something alarming or revolutionary like a really high quality mod coming out (or simply EXISTING) would hit high priority reasonably quickly

also, just for a sense of size, high-quality servers would probably hit a 3 or a 4 out of 5 on a priority scale

I'll try writing a technical platform for it. I could probably not moderate it alone though.

I see. Maybe some kind of reddit-ish voting system would be good for the priority stuff?

One question though:
What would it be called?

well, that's the point of the moderators

with the average blocklander's callous and stupid reactions to anything that could be feasibly seen as "insulting" it's probably for the best that moderators set quality standards instead of letting the kiddies buy people's votes with promises of admin or something stupid like that

You've got a point. A good one.

Just a bit scared of calling it something with RTB for trademark infringement reasons.
