Anyways, my dumb dwarves are storing seeds in the least efficient way possible (a single seed to a tile of stockpile). How do I get them to use the ample barrels my carpenters have lovingly made?

They store seeds in bags, they store bags in barrels. Get more bags.

I just tried my hand at adventure mode. I spawned next to two alligators and promptly had my right foot ripped off and I bled to death. Ha

how come my dwarves never actually go completely insane. they will go "stark raving mad" and not do anything or claim a workbench but never kill eacher?

Lol, you always spawn next to a building, run inside and use peasants as shields.

Out of my 98 dorfs, only 12 are at the 'content' level of happiness. Everyone else is way above that. c:

You can also raise sneaking and throwing really easily. So if you ever feel like grinding, do that.

I wasn't getting attacked much either for a looooooooooooong time. But then I got at least 15 snatchers over the course of one year, then a goblin ambush, with a goblin siege just after that, and from there things went to hell. The more of them you kill, the more they send the next time.

Kill caravans that come/or cut down trees and give wood items to elfs.
