I never said that occupying a country was impossible, I said occupying a country with an insurgent force was impossible.

I mean, the US occupied Japan because the country and its citizens surrendered to the United States. Canada wouldn't just surrender, despite their reputation of being mostly-French pussies they'd form an insurgent force if somehow their government's military was overwhelmed by that of a foreign invader.
