Possible "Click of Death" a week ago

I was on Wikipedia when I stumbled onto this page and listened to the sound file near the bottom of the page. I heard my hard drive make the same loud noise about week ago, however I could still read and write files when it was clicking.

This hard drive is very important to me because it carries all of my data back from 2009 to present day that I cannot loose and I do not have backups for them and I don't have enough money to recover this data.

Is my hard drive about to die? :c

I would buy a second hard drive and transfer all of your stuff onto it soon. I don't know for certain if your hard drive is going to die but you should probably save your stuff.

I do have a second 500 GB SATA hard drive (~30% used), however its a internal desktop hard drive and wont work with my laptop.

EDIT: The desktop it works with had a bad motherboard so I can't send files to it.

You can get an external drive pretty cheap at costco, but do it fast.

Whats the average time before a clicking hard drive goes dead? I need it to hold off to 2012 so I may be able to build my new desktop with a 2 TB hard drive.

Use a mobile USB holder,send files to it,get a new hard drive,send it to the new one.

I can't back up without anything to backup to. I got a 4 GB USB flashdrive, but I want to backup about 75 GB. And I got rid of Norton back up years ago when we switched to Kaspersky. And my grandfathers desktop won't arrive for a few months now.

If I were you, I wouldn't just forget around on the internet.

I would grab the flash drive with the largest space, and stash my important bullstuff in here.

I have a 4 GB flash drive and a MicroSD with 8 GB and heres what I plan to back up:

Personal folder
3.63 GB

Blockland
1.50 GB

Program Files (x86)
39.8 GB

Program Files
2.60 GB

Its not enough...

Don't use your computer. Let the hard drive rest, putting more load on it will just make it fail sooner. As soon as you can, get all of your important stuff off of there, it's a ticking time bomb.
