I personally HATE horror movies, because most horror movies are about a crazy guy with a chainsaw and secret "messages" on windows and stuff. ALIEN, on the other hand, actually adds HORROR, and an actual plot, and real suspense.

After reading the wikipedia article on the xenomorph, the whole facehugger thing seems like one massive joke up until that poor sap has a monster predatory animal burst from his chest and run off. Supposedly Dan O'Bannon said "this is a movie about alien interspecies rape," which suddenly made me think less seriously about that part of the movie. He also described the "homoloveual oral rape" as a real discomforter to male viewers.
