Author Topic: The problem I have with "Innovative Gameplay"  (Read 1833 times)

Innovative Gameplay, doing something different or in an original style. It's gone from being a bunch of awesomely-designed games to nothing but a bunch of cheap gimmicks.

Mostly how games for the Nintendo Wii are. They aren't releasing games anymore, they're releasing ideas in the form of 'games'. Half of the innovative games feel like they're worth 40% less than they're being sold.

And you know which games I'm talking about. When the game company isn't making carbon-copies of modern warfare or call of duty, they're releasing stuff like this:

And at least with indie games, you aren't paying through the nose for this stuff.

Basically what I'm saying is instead of making new ideas, they just kinda make it up on the fly and release it as a gimmick to get money instead of a game for entertainment value.

If you noticed basically all new nintendo games are stuff. They should of killed their franchises years ago and started new ones. I haven't seen nintendo doing new franchises in years.

I liked the old controllers and not this wiggly wave your arms around stuff.
But since Nintendo tried it, every company wants to try wave around like a dumbass gimmick.

It's not just nintendo. You have all the companies releasing what could have been a cheap stuffty indie game for six dollars for what actually costs fifty to sixty dollars.

Oooh motion sensors!!! They may not work right but I have to make money off of this!!

Welcome to the video game industry.

PS3 Indie games do not cost 50 dollars to make unless you take a look at the indie games in Microsoft live arcade.

In all honesty, don't you think the motion sensors on the Wii aren't used nearly enough?
They could do something original, or maybe a spin-off meant only for the Wii (like Mario Sports Mix, that's pretty good). Kirby's Epic Yarn actually isn't that bad. It is a very little-kids game, but it isn't awful. The best part is the music, they really put a lot into the music.

You have just spoken exactly what I was thinking.
I was really disappointed when I heard about the Kinect.

"hey check out our new game!"
"okay it's $60 and brand new, it's gotta be good! so what do I do in it"
"you move, jump, collect coins, and defeat enemies using basic gameplay elements, and it's sidescrolling"
"how is this any good? i could go play games like that for free"
"we made everything look like it was actually made out of playdoh"
"oh no i wasted my monies. :("

Well the Nintendo Wii was a terrible piece of stuff and for some reason Sony and Microsoft tried to profit off of the stuff. What happened to traditional, enjoyable games? Wii U looks worse

It's a bad idea in the first place, I wouldn't blame them for it.

The game isn't sold by the music, but the value of entertainment. Kirby's Epic Yarn sucked balls.

Wanna know who else puts a lot into their music? Bands.
How much do their songs cost? A lot less than Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Because we don't already have Mario party, mario sports, mario Olympics, mario go-kart racing, mario golf, mario basketball, mario tennis, mario soccer, etc.

Point taken.

In my mind, it was more the principle of taking away tried-and-true Kirby gaming techniques (yarn? that was a stupid idea) and replacing them with something "better."

Gameplay should come first. Take Deus Ex for example: it looked and sounded terrible, but it was fun to play
