So here is the story. My Dad thinks I have been using is MacBook Air too long, so he has told me to shut it off and give it to him. The reason being, it was really heated from Blockland, and I asked my Grandpa for A way to cool it down. My Dad got pissed and thought that when the computer heats up, it is going to "die". He started a whole scene in my house. I think he thinks that computers are like humans, and will die if they heat up. Sorry, I needed to rant about it to someone who is not computer illiterate... I am also currently typing this from my PS3. /rant

You need to be locked in a padded cell if you expect a Mac to stay cool to the touch. Those things get loving HOT.

The ice pack would lose it's cold after 5 minutes and then you would just be restricting air flow.

Computers can get damage from being hot for extended periods of time.  Especially things like MacBook Airs, which don't have much of a cooling system.  solder joints can become damaged, capacitors can fail, and many other things could happen. 

Whilst this is true, I have tested some case fans that have been running at full speed from a MOLEX connection, 24/7 for 7 years, and they still run fine. They were just like $8 new and both are still running like new.
So the chances of it happening aren't very good.

You're using large case fans, small laptop fans can be damaged much easier.
