Author Topic: So, my district is replacing it's laptops with loving iPads.  (Read 1613 times)

And you're complaining why?
Chances are most kids would goof off on the laptops anyway.

That seems stupid. Most apple non-computers lack any sort of functionality besides glitchy email and simple web browsing. Ipads are music and simple game macines.

yay! our tax money gets spent on handicapped apple products for middleschoolers who dont even need that crap

you are spoiled. i've had the same laptop for about 7 years now and i've never needed it for anything other than simple research and writing up documents. i'm in highschool and i STILL haven't needed my computer for much other than that in terms of education.

and don't give me stuff about how you need it for "notes", "networking between students", or "virtual textbooks." i did the same thing with actual notebooks and textbooks, and i still do today, and i have much stronger back and shoulders thanks too it. as of the networking, phones work just find. hell, they even have sites that offer free teacher operated forums. the fact of the matter is you live in a rich neighborhood and all the tax money that could be used on important things, like schools in poorer areas, is going to an ipad so you can type some half assed notes and play angry birds.

Geez.

We get 30 minutes once (sometimes two) a week for computer class.
I mean, we have computers in our room for doing things like typing documents, but we barely use do that.
Hopefully this year the class routine isn't majorly forgeted up like last year with every class being split into 30 minute sections with hour long classes taking two sections and having two classes (social and health or art and social etc.) in the course of 1 hours and two 30 minute sections.

My school is tech-savvy but they expect everyone to have their own computer at that age. And its mostly true, at this school.

i'd rather feel special being picked to hand out textbooks than ipads

Do you go to Rincon Valley Middle school?

The iPad is a wonderful device for playing with on the sofa and maybe light note taking or media creation. Anything intensive needs a laptop, its not a replacement. I hope you are tech savy enough to get the most you can out of it practically, because it won't be easy.

That is so stupid lmao. Such overpriced crap with no real form of control over it or real educational purpose.

An iPad?
Jesus, they could at least buy a decent tablet.

your district's students will be handicapped and goof off on the iPads, and your district will be broke for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on shiny new toys.

I hate humanity so much.

and your district will be broke for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on shiny new toys.

Lol I'm sure if the school is doing this they budgeted for it.

Lol I'm sure if the school is doing this they budgeted for it.
and because it's a public school, our tax dollars go to having 13 year olds play with oversized iPhones while they should be learning pre-algebra.
