Author Topic: The size of the Minecraft Planet  (Read 2560 times)

Minecraft is technically infinite because it keeps on generating more and more terrain as you explore, the farther away from the center you get the buggier it gets. There's a point that you can reach if you used a teleportation mod (or walked there) where you will crash.

The Far Lands.

But anyway, what if all of Minecraft was a huge online server? And the players were just so far apart that it would be almost impossible to find one another?

That would be pretty damn laggy.

Naaw, you'll only be rendering a certain amount of stuff.
And that would be really epic. I would love to explore and find little villages of minecraft players. :D

Do you understand how multiplayer works at all?

But there would be a lot of master servers if this was done, so it wouldn't.

If it was all on one server then the combined ping of players would probably just render the game unplayable due to constant lag. Master servers wouldn't be able to stop the ping going out of control.

If I were doing that I would be scarred out of my loving mind of dying. I mean holy stuff.
Just get the checkpoint block from portal gun mod.  :cookieMonster:

Notch probably limited the overall size of the world based on the max, unsigned value of a 32-bit integer (4294967296).
It's not limited. Things just break as you approach that number.

The only thing is that if the minecrafters did live on the same planet, well:
1. They'd be pretty lonely. 8 Earths just for yourself... that sucks.
2. The gravity on the planet would turn every player into loving pancakes.
3. Asteroids the size of 8 Earths would fall every minutes. (The new players with new worlds)
4. Mountains would be pretty low and ultra rare.

"There's no place like home"

*Shiver*

for one thing, I dont really like playing minecrft alone, and if this were the case, I would be looking for another person to play with FOREVER.

Looks like Minecraft planet has a major zombie infestation.

According my friend its bigger than ours, but you can walk across it in a straight path in one day.
