Author Topic: "In my opinion..."  (Read 2305 times)

This phrase seems like a powerful phrase to me. Say someone states their opinion on something like, say, Minecraft. They just say "minecraft sucks". When they say this, it gives others the impression that the one saying this believes that their opinion is definite and that starts arguments and disagreements. If someone were to say "in my opinion, minecraft sucks" or "minecraft sucks IMO" it wouldn't give the above stated impression. I feel that if people were to use the phrase "in my opinion" before or after stating their opinion things might be more peaceful with less arguments?

I mean, that's just how I feel, others may feel different. Just wanted to express my thoughts.

Well, In my opinion, you are right.
It makes people sound more civilized.

Without the IMO it sounds like you're trying to force your opinion that minecraft sucks on somebody.

What I hate most is when you respond to someone with your opinion and then they say something like:

"HEY DUD IT WAS JUST MY OPINION BRO"

Which is completely stupid because all you were doing was giving your opinion. I hate it when people act like you cant argue with them because they posted there opinion.

In my opinion, your opinion is opinionated and is not the opinion of those whose opinions differ from your opinions.

IMO why would we want less arguments?

What I hate most is when people make opinions based on false facts. For example:

"I like Minecraft more then Blockland because Blockland copied Minecraft."

I see that all the time on blockland videos. You would think they would bother to research about blockland before they do that.

Not only that but Blockland and Minecraft barely look similar at all.

Misunderstanding are a major cause of arguments. If people made their views more clear and try to stay neutral in certain matters, then I don't think we would have as much arguing. Especially on the internet, statements can seem drastically different depending on how you word it or how you express your opinion. Sometimes an argument can be settled (or calmed) as simply as just repeating your statement in a different way or showing it in a different light. :o

someone today told me "IMO rapping takes absolutely no skill, watsky has no talent and he is donky stuff."

that is an example of a stupid opinion, if an opinion has no possible way to be changed, that opinion is invalid. basically an opinion that can't changed isn't an opinion worth having.

Rapping takes skill, but IMO it mostly has no musical value.
