Author Topic: The (Near) Solution to Build Stealing  (Read 5191 times)

I think you should be able to keep your builds from being stolen; Badspot can go forget himself.

Argh. It is not something Badspot has consciously done by himself. It's how the loving game works.

He said that he would not fix it and anyone who does he would disable it, meaning it can be solved but he chooses not to.

Ima just say that I only steal builds if I really really like them, in which case I credit the original owner. There is one way to screw the saving stuff though. If you use ONLY bricks with modified UI names, I hear that as long as no one else has that UI name modification, then they will not be able to load the bricks and the build will be screwed. Soemone loaded a build with cube prints in my server once and I had forgotten to turn them on so it failed to load said cube prints.

Nobody should be stealing anything even if they give credit unless the owner tells them they can have it (at which point it's no longer stealing).

Thought so.

Just make something custom to it like custom playertype or something like that.

what?

He's not "fixing" it because it isn't a problem.

And here's his beliefs about the issue phrased in a less hostile way:
It's not a matter of me not respecting your wishes as a customer, it's a matter of respecting my customer base at large.  Most of them are decent people who just want to go on servers and save builds so they can play with them.  There are a few bad apples who will try to take credit but I'm not going to cripple the game just to slow them down a little.

Build something cool, post screenshots in the gallery, and all of the people who matter will know that you built it.  The idiots won't know, but they're idiots - nothing that you or I can do will change that.  You have to concentrate on making the experience better for the good players, not making it worse for the bad ones.

Not that it matters; I think you've pretty much screwed yourself when you said:

Nice, dude.

And as for my build 'theft': When I do not yet have permission I keep the build in a sort of 'holding area' until I get permission. And I always give credit where credit is due.

Lol. Inb4ban.

Not good.

Someone goes to server, builds awesome thing and leaves. you want to save it, because you are his friend from somewhere else and he would give trust to you if you ask.

BUT he isn't there, so you're screwed.
Clearbricks?

Then it would have to be private.

Badspot can't be that angry over what someone says about him.

He said that he would not fix it and anyone who does he would disable it, meaning it can be solved but he chooses not to.
No it can't. It's just one of those 'what if' things, where in the case that someone actually does find a way to disable saving, he would crap-on the add-on and probably protect some of the save functions.

Just stop thinking about yourself when it comes to builds. You shouldn't be making them to make yourself look better. You should be making them for the community.
