Author Topic: Commentating is harder than I thought. Tips?  (Read 961 times)

So I was bored last night and was all "I should commentate some games that I play for the lulz."
Next I decided to give a "test" run, and it was godawful.
I couldnt think of anything to say, and I sounded awful.
Half the video was me going "Ok. Im gonna ch."
"ugh"
"this game is getting kind of boring"
"dammit i died"
"ughhhh"

And the worst part was that you have to talk to a screen. I mean seriously, its like talking to yourself.

Anyways, I was wondering if I could have some tips on commentating.

You mean for making a video to post to the internet?
And what game?

I talk to myself while gaming all the time.

I don't know about you, but I often talk for my character in games such as Oblivion and Fable, where the character is mute.

Fable:
Mercenary: Need a good sword to fight beside you?
Me: No, I most certainly do NOT need a good sword to fight beside me. God dammit, stop asking.

Oblivion:
City Watch: Tidings, Citizen.
Me: I am the loving Champion of Cyrodiil, Master of the Fighter's Guild, Arena Grand Champion, and Daedric Lord Sheogorath. I am most certainly no mere "citizen."

You can also make comments on the nature of some of the things people say in your games. Much like the above, though it need not function as a reply.

Fable:
Alice the Housewife: Oh, doesn't my finger look sad without a ring on it...?
Me: If I've told her once, I've told her a thousand times.

Oblivion:
Countess Alessia Caro: I am Countess Alessia Caro, wife to Count Marius. I think Leyawiin would be better off if we removed all the dirty Argonians such as yourself. You wouldn't have a problem with that, would you?
Me: Now, who says something like that? How tactless would you have to be?
(No, I didn't say that out loud)

Well the video that I tested on was Minecraft.

You need to know what to talk about beforehand.  Talk about whats going on in the video, interact with any speech or dialogue.

Also if you make any puns while casting waste a few seconds on it like HuskyStarcraft.

and its not bad to talk about life.

Well the video that I tested on was Minecraft.

No wonder.

Try an action packed game.

I dunno if my computer could handle it, lol.

>Start video recording
>Play game
>Stop video recording
>Start video playback
>Think of funny and/or manly things to say at certain points
>Start audio recording
>Start video playback
>Say funny and/or manly things
>Stop audio recording
>Combine files
>GET ALL WOMEN.

Well the video that I tested on was Minecraft.

Because we need another video talking about Minecraft.

If you insist on going forward.
Realize all the people who "inspired" you to do this write their stuff out a head of time, and actually do quite a lot of planning and scripting.

Commentaries are actually scripted. Make a script of what ur going to say and practice. Also use a plugged in mic or else it will sound like stuff.

I'm gonna do one on Warhammer Space Marine, it will be easy because in the demo I was like "HEEYAAA HEEEYAAAA!" whenever I used my sword and thought of many silly things to say to the orks.

I dunno if my computer could handle it, lol.
It doesn't have to be new.

Commentaries are actually scripted

what kind of stuffty commentaries do you watch?
