Author Topic: Computer Compatibility Client  (Read 1276 times)

This mod will allow players join servers and see if their computers meet the specifications required for best performance.  There should be a line estimating how much FPS the player would have relative to the brick count, light count, and poly count on the server.  Thanks in advance if you can get this done and released.  There are some high-end servers and I always see players complaining about lag, which might confuse the admins whether or not it's the user or their server.

I find that performance issues are usually more related to people not knowing how to turn down their graphics settings. Something that detects performance issues and tries to adjust settings on the fly or at the press of a button would probably be a better approach.

It should include this too, not excluding either ideas.

Good idea, but on a few servers I have been on the lag was caused by ONE client with an insanely high ping. On TomTom's server once Tomtom checked someones ping (the server was lagging a little and they were lagging a ton) and it came back with a 9999. If you throw in a feature to check the pings of ALL players, you get a cookie.

a mod to drop the client with the highest ping would be pretty neat but somewhat silly to make, even if it's simple

What do you mean 'drop'? I just meant to find out who it is, not auto-kick them in the process. If you ran it in a loop eventually the host would bekicked (though idk under what circumstances anyone would run it in a loop)

Whatev.

drop as in kick

in a dedicated server the host may be kicked if you don't add in admin exceptions, which would, in some cases, defeat the purpose.

if it isn't dedicated, the local client connection would probably not be kicked unless he was the only one there and there were no host exceptions, addressed above already

I just want it to TELL the pings so the admin can kick if necessary...

Ottosparks, you're arguing with a moron.
Bill, this idea isn't for finding ping.  You can just press ctrl + n for that and if you really want to stay in a laggy server then that's your problem.

You CAN? Ok, never mind. Sorry for not bein at my A game.

i didn't think i was arguing, i thought we were just having a small discussion
