Author Topic: Am i the only one who hates this certain kind of ending?  (Read 1367 times)

Am i the only one who really, REALLY hates endings that save your game right before the final boss battle/whatever, so you can go through the credits, see the ending, and then find out that when you go back to playing the game you are dropped back to before the game ended, like, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, after you deafeat the final boss and load your save again, you are dropped back to the portal that lead to the final battle.

It makes you feel like everything you did afterwards was worthless, you just get dropped back like as if you still  haven't finished it.

I hate this. So much. I mean, it's fun to fight the final boss again sometimes, but with Zelda always going "Link! We must go stop the evil!" it gets annoying. And it makes me feel like I can never beat the game. :C

Never happened to me.

Happened to me in Ratchet: Deadlocked. Pretty annoying.

Happened in Red Steel 2 as well.

I hate cliffhangers and overused plots and endings.

A good ending would be where it would add a new "quest" or something at the end, that continues after you defeated the final boss or whatever, and then leaves you to finish the other stuff in the game, and NPC's would recognize that you saved them all or some stuff.

Or just end the game completely with a few minutes of glory like Earthbound.

Let's see when that happens:
Portal 2
Kingdom Hearts (and other versions, too)
Well, I think that's in most games that have saving...

What?
it does
finish game, last savegame was before bossbattle again

it does
finish game, last savegame was before bossbattle again
Just start a new game from a different chapter.

portal 2 is completely linear, and you can save DURING the battle.

My favorite is the ending to Ratchet and Clank games. It gives you the option to go back just before you beat it, or to start over with all of your weapons, but enemies are given a bigger health/damage bonus every successive time you beat it.

portal 2 is completely linear, and you can save DURING the battle.
You can also save during the credits if I'm correct, or at least right before the ending cutscene.
