Author Topic: Any way to run Terraria and maybe Steam on a powerpc mac?  (Read 5356 times)

Hello.
I would like to be able to play Terraria with my little sister. The only computers we have  to our use is my laptop and my big chunky powerpc (this means no intel) emac. It has hardly any hd space so I can't really use a windows emulator to partion some of the memory. I would be buying Terraria again if this works so don't say it's piracy because it isn't. So is there any way to get Terraria on it or should I just wait for ages till I get a new computer?

You don't need to buy Terraria again. Just go into offline mode on one account and launch Terraria like normal and join.

You won't be able to run Steam without Wine which is x86-only. If Terraria wasn't distributed through Steam, and as such was dependant on SteamWorks, then you would be able to run it through Mono, which is more platform independent. But IIRC Terraria refuses to launch if you don't start it from Steam, so you have to get that running too.

Damn.
Is there a way I could emulate the steam launcher in some way?

That would be borderline piracy.

I'm confused. Why? Steam is free so it's not like they'd loose anything from it, but if you're right I won't do it because I'm a good person (I think). D:

I'm assuming you live in the US.

Steam is the DRM. According to the DMCA bypassing the DRM is illegal/piracy. The same also applies for many other countries' copyright laws.

I'm actually in the UK, but if it's illegal I won't do it.  :panda:

Pretty sure the same applies for the UK.

Just incase I ever need mono for something else, which version should I use for my ppc?

http://download.mono-project.com/archive/2.6.7/macos-10-ppc/3/MonoFramework-2.6.7_3.macos10.novell.ppc.dmg is the latest PPC download. However, it only supports Leopard.

I'm on tiger, is there any version for it?

Oh, right, I forgot. Sadly, Terraria wouldn't run anyway because it uses XNA which isn't a part of Mono.

Also, I'm not sure, really, although I suppose you could go through each major version in the archives and see what works.

Im confused. What exactly are you asking for?
Do you want to play Terraria on your mac? If so, use this, http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/terraria-mac-wrapper.15236/
