Well the shoreline looks kind of rough. Is it really that jagged or is the screenshot just bad?

Making water fit a shoreline is very difficult in torque/map editor

Actually you can but you can't build inside it because of the "buried" limitation.

the bedroom itself is not part of the terrain

The cavity in the bed is an interior not a terrain and that basement thing is above the terrain level.

He meant under/inside the ground, not inside of any shape.
