- A laser anti-aircraft weapon was tested today. The weapon was aimed at a stationary aging F-16 Falcon aircraft, and to the researchers' astonishment the wing of the aircraft began to melt after about 13 seconds. This weapon was mounted on a radar-guided platform (it uses low-frequency radar, so stealth planes are also vulnerable) and aimed at a target drone. The drone burst into flames and broke up after 10 seconds. The weapon, which uses an invisible laser, is being fielded right now. It may be equipped with a visible (but harmless) laser to show where the weapon is aiming, and for now the capacitors are too large to be portable.
