Beautiful, just beautifuuuuAAAAAWHATTHEforget

I'm a thane of Whiterun and Windhelm, Arch-Mage of Winterhold College and the Stormblade of Stormcloaks. Aww yeaah. Time for main quest line!

So if I place my items in a wardrobe owned by me, they can't steal from it?

No, they most certainly cannot. Your house is the absolute most high-security facility in all of Nirn, so no thief could ever in any way infiltrate it. Your locks are so complex and picking them is such a mind-bendingly Herculean task that some consider your locks to be not of this world.

I know your house can get robbed, but UESP said Wardrobes are safe containers. AKA Robbers can't steal from them. I was assuming I needed a house with a safe, but if I can just put everything in my Breezehome wardrobe, then I'll be VERY happy. I've been collecting Dwarven crap and I need to put it somewhere safe.

Is house robbing something new to Skyrim? Does it happen in Oblivion?

Apparently it's new, a lot of people think it's a myth. But people have said they've seen people named Thief leaving their house or the area of it and noticing things missing. As such, I'd seriously prefer knowing what's safe to put things in. I thought only Safe boxes worked, but UESP said something about Wardrobes being safe, too. So I want to be sure I can dump all my collectors crap in there before continuing to Riverwood to retrieve the rest of it.

I've noticed thieves skulking around, when I killed them they just had a few gems and various things like plates and candlesticks.

Definitely house robbers. But again, is there anyway to quickly confirm that wardrobes count as safe? I have the urge to offload all my stuff and as such I'm keeping myself from playing because I'll likely either dump it all in the wardrobe or walk around sad until I get a home with a literal safe box to put things in.

I dumped my warrior bitch in my house.

And on top of everything, Steam is on the fritz again, so I can't ask people live over that. Talos damn it!

An old report of thieves robbing this guys house. But in the more recent documentation I found, people said they'd kill thieves freely without guards becoming mad, so they likely patched that bug recently. So the patches fixed minor things which could be majorly annoying such as this. Good to know, but as there's proof of thieves robbing your house, how do you prevent it? Wardrobes are safe or no? D:

I'm sorry for the bump, but WHAT?!

I went back to Riverwood after offloading a ton I stuff I was keeping on me for collectors sake, and I find the pile of stuff I was keeping here... burning?! What the forget is going on?

Edit: Oh, the forget? The torches I dropped before apparently turned themselves on.

Just watched Skyrim win "Game of the year" on X-play (G4 tv)
It also won best RPG something or other

Easy to miss awesomeness: Equip a Torch, start blocking. Walk up to someone and left click. You will smack them with the torch, setting them on fire. It's ever so much fun.
