Key NPCs don't die.
They may fall over, but they will always come back to being alive.

I've had a key npc die. I was doing the forsworn quests and then he got killed in the talos temple thing by imperials.

It's not possible for them to die, it's in the coding. So unless you've glitched or have a mod it won't have happened.

Probably there weren't actually that important.

There are so many bugs it's not funny. The game can't handle mods at all. I've redone the start so many times that I'm just about to cry. Add in the fact that the game doesn't load highest resolution textures not to mention the official texture pack. Now I remember why I quit this unstable forget.

Or don't use those mods which do massive changes to the game and how it plays. I only use some GUI mods to make things simpler, but that's it.

Aren't those normally unkillable?

some "essential" characters can die, but any main quest's character(s) can't die until they're no longer essential
for example, that girl you talk to in the Hall of the Dead during Namira's daedric quest can die
really easily
it's quite an annoyance

a good thing to remember is that if someone can die, you don't need to start a new game just because they die
