I hate myself. I looked up leaked gameplay on YouTube.

All I saw was 2 seconds of the character customizer, but I still feel bad. :(

the demo's been leaked since september for all the losers who want to play the exact same thing howard showed 50 times.

I think there was going to be something similar to how they do it in the Witcher, where it is like a competition that you bet on and stuff.
Making it comparable to The Witcher would require complex, high quality character animations. Pitching such an idea to Bethesda will get you hit in the head with a shovel and dropped into a lake.

Have you seen Skyrim's character animations? They're top-notch. Except perhaps jumping.

Anything would be better than Oblivion's.

Like good god man. I hope they fired the lead animator on Oblivion, cause he sucked ass.

Perhaps their engine couldn't handle it.
But then, perhaps they'd fire their engineers.

I'm pretty sure they're using motion capture, or at least they did for the execution moves.
You could see some of it in a video, but I forgot which one.

motion capture is cool and all but it kinda sucks if the animations don't blend together.

I'll assume they have something like that.
If the source engine has animation blending chances are Bethesda's new engine has it too.

Either way the only thing that bothered me was the odd impact of landing from high distances,
but chances are you'd die from most of the really high ones anyway.

Well your character swings a sword like he's not blindly swatting to make the bad things go away. He actually appears to know what he's doing.

Are you saying the engine can only handle stuffty unrealistic/robotic animations?

Perhaps.

I hope you're right. The animations really killed Oblivion for me. Easily among the top few reasons I didn't like the game as much as I should have been able to.

In Morrowind, it felt like awkward strutting, Oblivion's was sliding and gliding, and Skyrim's looks like actual walking. I'm going to play so much third person so I can oggle over my character and the animations.

Guys I'm getting it launch day :D
