Probably save game bloating.

Are there any pros/cons in joining the Winterhold College later in the game? Should I join it now when I'm level 4 or later at level ~30? Do I get bonuses or something if I level while being part of the guild?
nope, no negatives. you can join now but the questline isn't very new-member friendly so don't expect to be a hero straight away

All of the questlines, including the main quest, are way too short.

This. The dark brotherhood and thieves guild took hardly any time at all. Sure there's unlimited people to kill/steal from, but those quests are boring because you can't kill them in a cool way like dropping a statue on them.

Gonna go be an Altmer mage, I think. This should be fun.

Some of the quests for the college are challenging at an early level with basic spells, but doable.

I'm doing a wipe of my save game folder and starting fresh. I'm treading a dangerous path of not ever actually accomplishing anything new in the game by doing this, but hopefully this will be the only time I do it.

What's the absolute maximum overall level in this game? Like 81?

Maximum Level

Past level 50, leveling up happens much more slowly. The theoretical level cap (maximum level) is level 81, reached by increasing all skills to 100.(tested with player.advskill console cheat)
One implication of the leveling system is that although it is possible to create a character with 100 in all skills, it is not possible for one character to unlock all skill perks, unless a console command is used (player.addperk). In such a case, one may unlock every perk available, even at level 1. There are more than 250 total skill perks (including multi-point perks), but only around 80 of them can be unlocked by any given character.

I failed miserably during my second dragon fight and ran away like a little bitch. Restarting the game, this time I am leveling up alot before I even bother retrieving the dragonstone thingy.
Assuming you're playing at adept difficulty, it really isn't that hard. I was level 4/5 when I beat him easily. :c

Ergo influencing you to make a new character.

i thought you only got perks up to level 50?

I think they scrapped that idea.

Therefore, one picks perks relevant to his character archetype(warrior, rogue, mage).

Gods damn, why is Lucan Valerius loving essential. Nobody from these side quests should be essential. Only people essential to the main storyline and main stories for each faction should be essential. I want to kill this douche so I can keep the golden claw without it being marked as stolen.
