Could be a guard's arrow. Thieves sometimes get caught, and the arrow could have been a miss.

iIm training my archery.

I made a bow with 80 damage base, upgraded with my enchantments does 135 damage base, plus 128 damage in fire and shock. Combined with 3x stealth damage perk, I rarely backstab anymore.

Also, Keening looks like a dwarven makeshift dagger- it's so lovey.

Guard vs. Thief combat goes in a bunch of the cities, I was in Riverwood robbing them blind grinding smithing in the dead of night when I saw some guy in leather armor sneaking around. Then a guard saw the guy and started shooting at him while the thief ran away, while he was running I drew my bow and shot him in the back, instakilling him. He had a goblet, a plate and some gold on him. Happened again that same night.

I never witness thieving but I do occasionally get those fugitive guys who are like "snitchordoublecrossmeandillki llyou, I mean it!" then i proceed to lie to the hunter and kill the fugitive and keep the stolen good. #douchebag
