Uh, not what I've been told and seen myself. If anything other than you takes her health to zero, your follower will simply hunch over and slowly regain themselves, then stand up. If you hit your follower past zero, they die.
People will disengage, however, if anyone near them power attacks and hits them, or is something is sustained, like dragon fire, it WILL kill them. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers

I have potions and enchanted staffs to sell, who can I sell them to?

Lol forget Lydia I solo everything.

EXCEPT UNTIL THE GAME BROKE WHEN I HAD TO GET ESBERN.
Anyone else have their game break at Esbern?  I managed to manipulate him to get him to Delphine but now he won't talk at all and neither will Delphine.

I'd go with Farengar Secret-Fire at Dragonsreach and other court wizards for the staves, and to various alchemy shops for the potions.

Weird. Well, they aren't targeted while recovering health, so it's hard for them to die permanently. And I haven't seen a power attack used against my followers yet.

Where's an archery trainer that trains past 75?

Edit: Loaded up with [stolen] stuff I only kept to sell, I ready myself to waddle to every merchant in Whiterun.

So no one else has had problems with Esbern, the NPC?

All NPCs do that when they are on low health. They kneel for a while and regen HP. Maul them some more and they die. Essential NPCs kneel at low HP too, but the difference is that they don't die no matter what.

wait what

oh okay
but it's too late now i already reloaded the save and did the entire place again :C

aaaaaaaaarrrrghh god loving damnit I lost my save when I switched over to windows 7

forget loving forget

FUUUUUUCK

i sacrificed lydia to boethiah for a some sweet new duds.
I sacrificed that wizard from the Bee and Barb. He means nothing to me.

I wouldn't sacrifice lydia, I keep my housecarls in the houses. I'd sacrifice uthgard or someone else that is an easy to get companion. I normally solo stuff anyway.

If I remember correctly you can sacrifice any follower. Hire a mercenary?

Mister, this is a PC game. If there was no console the developers would simply be richards.

Nuh uh, how?

Dude I saw something similar happen. I was fighting a dragon on the plains by the river outside Whiterun and an army of crabs marches from the river bank to attack the dragon.
