Author Topic: Can someone fill me in on the Quake storyline?  (Read 1438 times)

Can someone tell me why Quake went from fighting demons from hell to fighting cyborg aliens in space? Also what's the deal with Quake 3, 4 and live?

Other then Quake 3 having teams/races from both of the first two games there are no storyline connections between the Quake games.

Of course, Quake 4 has you fighting the Strogg again like in 2 but I think it's pretty much a re-boot. So the plot-line of 2 doesn't exist the in 4th's world.

So basically they completely scrapped out the demons from hell and satanic space marines for a generic space shooter after Quake 2.

STORY DOES NOT MATTER IN SUCH A MANLY GAME.

Also Quake 3 has as much story as Counter-Strike because it is a multiplayer game.
Quake live is just a remake of Quake 3.

And nothing after Quake 1 even keeps the same theme? Why would they just take out the satanic element?

They were going to name Quake 2 something else but were having trouble trade marketing it. So they ended up re-using Quake since they already had it trade marked.

seriouspost: quake 3 was when they wised up and made the game multiplayer only, 4 is more of the strogg story, live is a reboot of quake 3 as a f2p shooter

Well they've completely ruined the series then. Imagine if they named Quake 2 Wolfenstein 2 instead and then after that Wolfenstein is nothing but killing cyborg aliens.

Quake: Demons from the realm of Lovecraft invade a military base during teleportation experiments. You are the sole survivor of your squad. Go kick some ass. Basically Doom except a lot more brown and 3D.

Quake II: Humans have been at war with the cybernetic Strogg alien race for a while. During a mission where the plan was to send soldiers in with individual pods, your pod is damaged and you are separated from your squad and everyone else is killed. Go kick some ass.

Quake III: Every badass in different dimensions is taken from their world and thrown into the Arena Eternal, where you fight to the death except you don't die. forget storyline.

Quake 4: Sequel to Quake II. Bitterman, the protagonist of Quake II, has defeated the Makron, the Strogg leader. Matthew Kane, you, are sent with Rhino Squad to dispatch the remaining forces. Except they make a new Makron. Then you get turned into a Strogg without the mindloving, so you become a super soldier.

Quake Live: It's just Quake III.

You're already killing cyborg Riddler in Wolfenstein, so that wouldn't seem much different from Wolfenstein. And nobody has bitched about the name since forever.

I'm afraid you've lost me.

Point out where and I'll attempt to elaborate. It's not rocket science.

The story seems feels like a C-movie story.

play quake 3 and try to say that again
(play it with me and we'll duel)

I don't like multiplayer only games.
