Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd doesn't sound as good to me as the Pink Floyd that became famous in the 70's. Syd's was ... I don't know, not as good. They sounded like a Beatles clone to me. The later version of the band was practically the first of their kind. They mastered progressive rock.
While that is true, some of their stuff from that era is still quite good.

Yeah, it was pretty original back then.
