Author Topic: Hey guys, can you help me with something?  (Read 1301 times)

So, I'm saving up for a new computer. Since I only get $5 a week, I'd have to buy it next year. I also live in the middle of nowhere, so I don't get payed anything extra for doing more chores here. (It's on a farm. I feed the animals, take out trash or compost and lots of other stuff.)
So, I have two questions.

1. How much is a GOOD gaming computer? (Must be prebuilt, because I'm paranoid about things. Can also be off of newegg) I want to be able to play:
MW2
BFBC2
All Valve Games
Dawn of War II
Starcraft 2
And much more.
I don't want to go for a really high price. I want to be able to get something in November or near Christmas of next year.

2. If I'm getting $5 a week, how much should I have by then?

Uh, about $700+.
I got my computer for 600 and I'm changing the graphics card and adding a power supply.

Someone linked me a decent $300 and a GREAT $500 one. Are you sure?

Based on my experiences.
I might be wrong, though.

52 weeks (52 weeks / year) * $5 = $260 a year.

I don't think that's your actual budget. So what is your budget?...

I was able to play BFBC on a computer with a stuffty graphics card for $450 but everything was set lower, go for a $600 computer.

If you salvage a lot of parts from your old computer (such as an optical drive or hard drive,) you can build a great computer for almost $300 or less.
I'll try putting something together

forget you and your prebuilt stuff
build one for much less

My computer ran me about $850, a little more but would def. fit your requirements. I've got 12GB (DDR3) RAM, 4GB video RAM, ~750W PSU + 3.4GHz AMD Phenom.. something (Idk if it was II or what) quad core processor and an ASUS motherboard. Gets hot as hell because my cooling is crap but I really don't care because we don't have heat right now. lol. But yeah. I can run most games at full settings with no problem, just trying to give you a perspective.
OH and a 1TB Seagate HDD

I don't have a budget really.
Although. $5 (I have $23 right now) and I'm going to get it sometime around Christmas 2012. Is that 52 weeks? If it is, I'll buy it around my birthday then, because I'd rather save up more money than that. (My birthday is February 13th, if it matters)

You paid $850 for that?

What the forget, sounds something like ~$1500.

Is it really that easy to build one?
Plus, salvaging parts is a no go. Look at my post in TheBlackParrot's topic. It's not worth scrapping.

Yes.

You can use the HDD and the OS until you can get a better HDD
I'll build you one at the cheapest and most reliable parts I can find, brb.

I'm really not comfortable with building/upgrading a computer on my own. :c

Don't worry, I'll include a grounding strap if you're overcautious of building a computer. A grounding strap gives piece-of-mind for first-time builders. There are also hundreds of tutorials online.

Oh, okay then.

I was asking for a ExHDD for Christmas. Will that work temporarily?

I can also get Win7 or Vista. I'm sure my parents would oblige as to buying me a copy.
