Again, they were unprepared. They had light clothes, their soldiers froze when the Russian winter hit them and their machines started to fail. The entirety of the German army was failing by the time they reached Berlin because they were fighting two powerful foes on two fronts.

You used a war as an example. If anything, wars actually further scientific knowledge (See: Atomic Bombs)

Show an example of a religious group actually halting scientific research in recent times, not just speaking out against it (Which is protected under the US constitution, Amendment 1 in the Bill of Rights). Just because there were some corrupt religious leaders back then doesn't mean it's intended to halt all scientific research.
