Author Topic: How effective would humans be in hand-to-hand combat with an animal?  (Read 1586 times)

If confronted by a wild animal, how would a human fare if he/she had no choice but to fight it? This could be any wild animal, a bobcat, a coyote, a fox, a wolf, even a bear (which would probably be pretty obvious). Would a human's higher intelligence and ingenuity let him/her win in combat? Just something I thought up, I oft wonder what the limitations of the human body are.

/discuss.

EDIT: Guns are not allowed, but you can pick up objects to use. Assume you are in the woods.

EDIT 2: You can pick up a stick to use, assuming one of suitable size is nearby.
Three answers, please. Human vs. Coyote, Human vs. Bobcat, and Human vs. Raccoon.

I'd strangle a bear with my beard hairs.

Punch them in the face.
Problem solved!

If I was attacked by a caterpillar I would submit to it's rule and help it build an empire.

yo mang that avatar didnt fit the quote i dont know what u were tryin to do there

Ontopic, we dont have claws/tough skin or anything adapted for animal-animal combat. We lose most of the time against competent opponents. (E.g human vs fully grown wild wolf we would lose easily)

But we do have guns.

if i saw an elephant id get a mouse and then punch the elephant so itd be scared to death

lol, hand-to-hand combat is a tad ridiculous.  We are one of the few animals with opposable thumbs.

forget hand-to-hand, I'll beat that bobcat to death with a stick.

I'd kick that animal in the face.
Then proceed to beat it to death.

if humans are smart enough to invent guns then they should be allowed to use them in a "fair fight"

It depends on the animal one is facing.
