Author Topic: Looking for large reliable hard drives.  (Read 2231 times)

Well you know, at least 2tb, i have been looking on newegg at the 3tb hard drives, and they sound quite unreliable from the reviews. So i come to you guys for help. Also, under $200. If this isn't clear i want an internal hard drive for my pc that is at least 2tb big, and under $200.

newegg should be fine, if nothing else buy 2 1tb hdds

>large

>reliable

>not a snake

get 2 1tb drives and put them in raid 0. twice the speed of one 2tb drive. probably more reliable too.

WD Black are amazing.

Stick to the well known ones, like WD Black or Blue (green aren't the best) and Seagate aren't bad.

Great fast HD's.

I don't even know what RAID is :(

All I'm getting is that it splits data into two hard drives.  But what if one of the hard drives goes bad?

Yoooooou're forgeted.

well that depends on the RAID. RAID 0 isn't a true RAID configuration, and yes if one goes bad you're forgeted. The whole point of real RAID, though, is that drives can go bad and the system will keep running, and rebuild itself when possible. RAID stands for Redundant Arrays of Independent Discs. If you want the speed boost of RAID 0 with the security of a traditional RAID setup you can do RAID 10 (aka 1+0 or something). but you'll have to buy twice as much storage - if you want 2tb storage you'd buy 4tb of drives.

I want to max out the space i have, using my four hard drive slots to the best not to 4tb spread out into 1tb because it is cheaper, it's cheaper for a reason you won't get as much out of it. Also any recommendations on a video card upgrade from a GeForce GTX 260?

Budget?
What do you plan on doing?

i suggest geforce GTX 550 TI Top, thats what im using and it runs everything on high perfectly (of course if you really want to max it out id go with the 560, i was on a slight budget, so i went with the $150 card instead of the $300 card)

How the hell did you get quoted $300 for a 560?
Also the 260 to 550 isn't that much of a gain to worry TBH. I'd go for a bit more.
