Author Topic: Why hasn't someone already made this? (No tl;dr please!)  (Read 3055 times)

It's such an obvious necessity, it's been completely overlooked!(There might have been 1 or 2 ppl who thought of it, just no-one actually made it before.)

Why don't we have a server mod to prevent people from saving bricks? It would drastically reduce build stealing and servers would be a lot better. How? People wouldn't be afraid to host their prize builds because there wouldn't be a risk of someone stealing it.
For example, TheArmyGuy's Spirit class Recon ship. It looks EPIC. But I've never seen it before, in-game that is. Unless he says otherwise, we can only assume he doesn't want random people stealing/using it and hasn't hosted/released it or anything for that reason.

It could be as simple as giving the client a faux .bls when someone tries to save, e.g. a rainbow frog or something handicapped like that. Maybe even send a request to the server host, and if host is not present, request is automatically denied. Possibly even have an auto-deny/accept through RTB prefs. It would be awesome if you could automatically ban someone for a preset amount of time for "Attempted Build Stealing" (Like limit it to a few days, don't want unreasonable perma-bans all over BL. But then again...)

I'm also currently working on a full scale Pillar of Autumn from Halo: Combat Evolved (*shock* That's old, haven't heard that title in a while)

The interior (will not fit inside the exterior, damn you bungie!) will be released along with Midway Sentinel's Halo pack. However, I will also build an exterior version and put my own layout inside it. This version will be private. Only me (obviously) and a select few people will get this save, provided they agree to never host/release it. (Unless this add-on is made)

If this is something that we can't figure out how to do, we can always get a petition going and send it to Badspot. It may not work, but it's better than just accepting defeat.

/support this if you agree with me

/make this if you're awesome and possibly the best scripter out there

Impossible and not being made. Sorry. :(

so many times this has been requested, Badspot says no.

Any idea why he says no? I don't see any reason why someone shouldn't be allowed to show and tell w/o risking someone stealing it.

I honestly think baddy should make an option for an update to your game to where people can't save bricks

Like 10 or 5 bucks at least.

Would be a good idea.

But then that might welcome in other extra features that you have to pay for. Remember that when you bought the game is said that updates and stuff will be free for life once you've paid the $20.

This isn't possible without not giving the bricks to the client.

Even if you did somehow manage to block any server commands the client needs to use to save bricks I can still easily whip up a client script to loop through the objects on the server and save all bricks into a valid .bls script. You cannot detect this from the server, except for me not responding for a while but that might occur for other reasons.

Furthermore, you can't not give the bricks to the client even if you wanted to -- it's not handled by functions you can package, it's handled by the game engine.

The only way he could do this would be to not allow anyone to save bricks on online servers.

Also, this is suggested about once a month.

The curse sensor was still there, I believe.

Too bad it will not happen anytime soon. :S

No. It will not happen anytime soon because it cannot happen. It is impossible. This has been suggested at least once a month for the past few years. And every single loving time the answer is the same.
