Author Topic: The Thing (The new one)  (Read 1025 times)

Yeah, they made a remake of the old "the thing" movie. or so i thought. i went to see it, and turns out it's actually a prequel, with the end leading up somewhat perfectly to the beginning of the older movie.

SPOILEEEERRRS
Basically a bunch of Norwegian men out in Antarctica find a block of ice with this thing in it and it breaks out and forgets up everyone's stuff. and it can imitate people.
and getting it's cells on your cells causes it to eat up the cells inside your body and mimic the old ones, leaving the person oblivious to the fact they are this thing, until of course they change.

REVIEWS
The critics say this movie was so/so, because it wasn't a straight up copy of john carpenters movie. (dammit forget critics) but most to all users loved it and gave it high ratings. it's definitely worth watching, and if you've seen the first movie you'll see how well it ties in with it. I personally loved it.

Instead of a remake, they should have added more to the plot, made a different setting and actually put effort into it.

I've been meaning to watch the original for a long time, maybe I'll watch it before going to see the remake.

I'm sure that if the remake does well, they'll make a sequel which will inevitably have those characteristics.

also, why does everyone have to loving remake horror movies, it's kind of annoying me

It's a prequel, you can't just make them out in some random forgetland that ties up to the other movie in no way, they kinda had to make it there because of the plot

Yeah you should. Or do what i did, watch the new one THEN the old one.

I know, it's been happening a lot. It's a good movie. you don't get too in depth with the Norwegian dudes tho :/

The great thing(no pun intended) about the thing from the 70's was that it was all stop motion and clay and looked way cooler than CGI because they actually used real materials.

Oh and just because i liked the movie, doesn't mean all these remakes aren't pissing me off as well.

Yeah i watched that too. I liked it, but i laughed at how much we've come from that. But yeah, clay definitely gives it a nostalgic feel and makes it a bit creepier.

Not to say they didn't do a very good job on the cgi though.

the part of that movie that made me cringe is the helicopter scene towards the beginning. you get a full on look at the thing and it downgrades the creep factor.

I already did a review D:

Your all saying it's a remake, when it's actually a prequel. :/
