Hey computer n3rds
is macbook pro good

Overpriced. If you want something sleek and nice take a look at the new Ultrabooks

Macbook airs are terrible

did you base your build off the newegg how to build a computer video?

Somewhat. It was a good build, and the case is one of the best I've seen.

Well i have a dell inspiron with an upgraded graphics accelerator and card.

i have a stuffty router from netgear that is incredibly handicapped, it doesn't let me forward ports because it doesn't recognize my ip (that IT gave to me)

I want something that'll make my games run with a faster FPS, as they're slower because of graphic intensity. i will do a dxdiag and post my specs in a bit though.

My PC has been upgraded around a Dell Inspiron 570 and the only remaining parts that need to be replaced are the original HDD, motherboard and case, I have enough power to run current generation games without any problems, I get 40-50 FPS stable in Battlefield 3 on high settings on all maps.

My rig is nothing special, all of the parts I have so far cost me about £500-600 at most but it really depends on your budget, if you can afford to buy a whole new rig then go ahead, but if you can't and just want something that can play games as soon as possible then upgrading bit by bit is the best bet, it's what I did and you can just ask around on the Dell support forums for upgrading tips, there's a large community of people who can and definitely will give you advice and pointers, it's where I figured out what stuff would actually work with a Dell stock motherboard, here's a link if you're interested;  http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514.aspx

I got my raspberry pi in the mail a few weeks ago. My plan is to eventually build a MAME arcade, complete with authentic arcade controls and a working coin acceptor (just dumps the coin in a tray so you can use them again, it's mostly there for fun and because I can do it).

The raspberry pi is a credit card sized computer with an 800MHz ARM processor, 256MB of RAM, and runs linux.

Raspberry pi surrounded by junk, it's the green thing next to my multimeter. The thing with three wires coming out of it is a coin acceptor. The blue thing with a computer chip is an arduino uno mounted on a plexiglass board along with a half size breadboard.

Note that I don't actually keep the raspberry pi exposed like that when it's in use. I haven't ordered a case for it yet but when I use it I have a plastic sandwhich container I cut apart that it sits in to provide basic esd protection or from accidentally shorting on random metal.

I'm still waiting on my radio tuner to come in from deal extreme so I can try making it into a software defined radio. I might need to overclock the pi but even at 900MHz I don't know if it will be able to demodulate a radio signal at any reasonable speed. I'm not too worried though since I can still use it with my laptop running SDR#. I've put off working on my pi for a bit until I can move all my stuff over to an electronics lab at my university. Working on a dinner table in my apartment just kind of sucks.

Thanks. i bookmarked that dell forum as well.

anyway my specs are

and it's 32 bit. i'm pretty sure i'm missing specs but i've never checked them all.
i only have 2 gb of ram :u

Actually i think i want to try to build a new one. The $600 one, does it run most/all games very well? i don't care how high the quality can go, as long as it can run things without hiccups

I think all the builds in the OP are outdated, not sure though

that explains why most are out of stock.

meh.. i bet there is an equivalent for around the same price.

Okay guys i'm thinking about buying a new hard drive because my computer is all like
forget YOU NO 3D GAMING FOR YOU and i'm pretty sure it's because my computer's hardrive is dying so i figured it was a good idea. so now on to the main question
Should i buy a 500GB or splurge a little bit and buy a 1TB drive?
and also windows 7
yiss

wedge that's awesome
and you have a kramer avatar which makes it even more awesome
good job at being awesome

overclock it and make it oil cooled
Hahaha. You should have followed that up with "but can it run crysis?"

Can't really push it much over 900MHz without modifying the raspberry pi due to power requirements. Keep in mind that the raspberry pi runs off 5V and draws around a couple hundred mA of current (this is the kind of power you can easily supply from a generic cell phone charger). You have to overclock within the confines of what the onboard components can supply. At that point it's just cheaper to buy one of the more powerful tiny linux based computers, like the gooseberry. I actually don't even know how well the pi runs MAME although I'll find out soon.

Putting heatsinks or fans on the raspberry pi is trivial and you can do it for $10-15 in parts and I've even seen kits for it, but there's not a whole lot of good reasons to do so since it's designed to run on passive cooling without heatsinks.

my parts arrived.

my case is 6 millimeters shorter than my desk.

everything but THE GODDAMN PROCESSOR AAAHHH

Why did you get DDR2 memory?

But will it blend?

What is your gpu currently?
It doesn't really matter though, judging by your 1.8 ghz processor you are sorely in need of a brand new computer

ATI Radeon HD 2400.

and since the links in OP are obselete, can somebody suggest parts for a rig around the $600 budget? also beforehand, how well does a $600 built rig function? better than mine probably, but i'd just like to know
