the motherboards box
Did the motherboard come with a booklet?
Does the booklet have any description of the error codes?

yes, I don't know, will look now

the only thing that appears wrong is "No signal"

link me best $100-$200 tablet please.
its been a very long while, dunno whats good.
link me a few that fall between that budget. dont know if i necessarily need a 200 dollar one if the differences are small.

Ah.
The numbers are just telling you it's initializing components.
A3 is IDE enable. A9 is start of setup. A6 is SCSI detect.

Looks to me as it's not detecting the monitor or video card.
There must be some way to enable the PCI-E lane on the board.
Is the video card plugged in to the first PCI-E lane?

PCIE2, or PCIE4. I put it in 2. which is above 4

it recommends this for single cards

Have you read the manual as to how to set it up first time?
There might be a particular button combination that you have to press. I can't see it, but it's possible.
Sorry I can't help further right now, have sport to go to.

what does SCSI detect even indicate? Is it an error?

hmm. according to implications, it's angry at me for not having the HDD and optical drives in place. as everything appears to work, I'll start getting it in the case.

where do I put these forgeters

I know where to put hd audio, but I don't understand what AC'97 is and where the tiny ones (power/reset switches, power/hdd LEDs) are supposed to go

There's small connectors on the bottom side of your motherboard. These connections are for your case controls like the power switch etc.

There is some guides on what to connect where. They all connect to the same set of pins on the motherboard, which is located on the bottom right on your motherboard, see:
http://i1-news.softpedia-static.com/images/news2/ASRock-s-PCI-Express-3-0-Compliant-LGA-1155-Motherboards-Get-Pictured-3.jpg

However don't go slapping them on anywhere on there, as they have to go in a certain order. Let me get back to you on the order.

Also do note that any front USB ports in your case will connect to one of the USB headers.
Do note that AC'97 is an Audio connector.

aha, I see where the little ones go now. And, I know where HD Audio is supposed to go, but what about the audio connector that comes out of that? The motherboard says HD_AUDIO in that spot. Is the AC'97 thing just in case it's a different type to plug into?

Not entirely sure.
Also, be very sure where they go before you turn it on or you could damage your mobo.
Consult your manual where they go, as it is different for every motherboard.

Here's something that shows generally what they are like:

But do remember, different for every motherboard.

Everything is in place. No debug notification this time, got POST beep from mob speaker.

No signal on the monitor.

Am I dumb for plugging it into the video card instead of the motherboard?

WINDOWS IS LOADING FILES.

The GPU sounds like a goddamn turbine. What controls the speed of the fan? I can feel the breeze from a couple feet away. (Side panel is off) I know that other computers I own only go FULL AIRMOVING POWER when I'm in the middle of a game or rendering or something. Please tell me it won't be like this whenever it's powered on.

Okay, apparently not recognizing the GPU. Downloaded Nvidia drivers, said it could not detect compatible hardware.

what do

...oh

apparently there are two power cables that are supposed to go to the gpu  :cookieMonster:

everything looks much more in order, stand by.
(since nobody else is watching this thread this is more a journal than anything)

1. Is there really a video output from the motherboard? Newegg reports that there is no onboard video card, so if that's true, it's not possible.

2. There are only ways of controlling the fan once you are in Windows with the correct drivers.

3. Reboot, enter BIOS and set the main video output as the PCI-E 2 lane, then reboot and plug the monitor into the video cards plug. Try installing the drivers now.

Holy stuff did you not know that?
2 plugs = need for 2 plugs.
It's not like they have a spare just in case the video card decides to draw more power. Once you have a video card, that's it, they only have the power connectors that they need.
