i accidentally snapped of that little plastic prong thing on the motherboard so my GPU is slightly loose and i occasionally get red/cyan lines and dots across the screen :(
but i will get a new motherboard soon + everything returns to normal when i let the computer taste my entrepreneur hand

Highest ATi GPU that doesn't need power from the power supply (a.k.a. a power cable plugged into it.)

Sorry for double post but I may have messed up my build.
So I put in the CPU, no problem. But I did have a little trouble with the heatsink. Then I installed the memory, no problem. I trying to POST outside of the case to see if anything is wrong and I guess there is. I plug in all the front panel connectors. Then when I press the power button, the fan turns on for just a second and then turns off. Any help?

i had this problm when i tried to put different RAM in my computer and when i put my new video card in my old motherboard

I've been reading it could be the PSU, memory, or just the motherboard. I'm going to try the memory in the other slot.
EDIT: Didn't help.

The psu will also turn on (the fan turns on) but then it will turn off. Help?

what parts are in it and what's the power rating on the PSU

I'm going to get one of these. Since I cannot think for myself, please pick the most suitable one for playing games such as Minecraft and Land of Blocks.

Number 2 would be work just fine, everything else is overkill.

Wow, I'm so stupid. I had the power switch the wrong way.  :cookieMonster:

Help:

So I got a radeon hd 6870 like i was recommended in this topic for christmas and it doesn't seem to work... I took out the old card and put the new one in it's place and it just doesn't seem to be giving any signal out. Computer starts up as normally but no display through the monitor. I put the old card back in and it still works so nothing else wrong other than the new card. I double checked that i'd put it in right. I don't think the card is faulty as it's brand new and packaged. I tried un-installing the old card's drivers and putting in the new card as well but no luck.

It's probably defective, but by any chance, did you plug the 6 pin power connector into it?

yes, people forget to do that all the time. it's already happened to two people in this topic i think?

Now I just need to install Ubuntu on it.

And the only USB flash drive is in my sisters' room.

And the're sleeping.
