there may be some form of software amplifier you could find on your computer.
I've already tried looking, none.  I need an actual hardware amplifier, i.e. something that plugs into USB ports or something to draw power for the headphones.  I don't think software would help at all.

Im pretty sure the fan on my graphics card is dying, finally an excuse to buy a new gpu. Im thinking of a gtx 670

8 loving MONTHS.  Still, there is NO loving fix for this stuff.  Also, Linux developers are loving handicapped.  So what the forget are you supposed to do when, inevitably, your network equipment doesn't work?  Of course, download packages from websites, and don't include the dependencies because you would be installing network drivers using apt-get and everything, right?  You don't have 3 different ways of connecting to the Internet in your computer?  Well, you're forgeted.

I find it balls handicapped they include all the tools for Broadcom adapters but don't for Atheros adapters, getting my mom to try ubuntu because of this is ridiculously hard because she has to plug it in to an ethernet jack to get connectivity.

But still Broadcom isn't supported well.  I've owned two cards of theirs and they don't work with Ubuntu.

I own only one, and the firmware isn't installed (by default.) That's easily fixable, as b43-fwcutter comes on the disk, but it's the complete opposite with my Atheros adapter.

Don't listen to momentum
A GTX 670 is a superb and solid card, take a look at this article to see which variation you should get
