Author Topic: The Computer Megathread  (Read 487174 times)

So uh, I'm having a huge problem. I was getting skins for my computer, and something went wrong. Everything is black now. When I start up my computer, I can log in to accounts, but then everything is black. I've tried safe mode and it does the same thing. I'm using windows 7. Help please?
My uncle had this problem a while ago, I can't remember how he fixed it, uhm, can you start in safe mode with command prompt? It was something to do with that, Google it or something.

Took a step into the 21st century of mac osx.  Highly satisfied with the performance of Mountain Lion on my 4 year old iMac.  Blockland actually runs better than it did on snow leopard very very surprisingly.

Guys. It's down to this.

1. Phanteks PH-TC14PE
2. Corsair Hydro H80
3. Corsair Hydro H100

Whatdo. Seriously, I don't want to spend a lot of money but I do want to keep my CPU cooled while it's clocked to 4.5 GHz (i5 2500k).

On my board, I have two SATA controllers, a Marvell controller with one 3Gbps SATA and one 3Gbps eSATA, and a VIA controller with two 1.5Gbps SATA ports (capable of RAID 0 and 1)
When I attempt to boot from my Marvell controller (my Blu-Ray drive is hooked up to it,) it might not boot. Most of the time it just displays a blank screen with the flashing underline, even if there's bootable media in the drive. That might not be your case, but after it boots into Windows, it works perfectly fine, and under Linux, it works from blacklisting pata_marvell and modprobing sata_marvell. The BIOS boot rom for it may have issues, try updating your BIOS?

go to a home hardware or something and ask

I have thought about this but I got scared til I realized the board came with dual bios just incase something went wrong. I will try updating though.

Quick question, HD 7770 or GTX 560?

I'd say nvidia so you don't have to deal with catalyst. I think the 7770 is more powerful, but it's worth sacrificing a little bit.

I'm 100% fine with using CCC, I have done so for years and have never had any real problems with it.
I'm interested in performance, not petty issues

nothing wrong with catalyst anymore, their older drivers were garbage though

Now that I realise that blankets aren't really great for this stuff I feel like an idiot.
Oh well, hopefully nothing too terrible happens.

Anyone know where I could find a light switch, but instead of using a switch it uses some form of like, pad that I could touch to turn on and off a light?
The device you're looking for is called a capacitive touch switch or sensor if you're wondering what to search for.

Here is an example of one for sale:

You could also use a resistive touch sensor. There's actually a kit for making a controller out of pretty much anything called Makey Makey.
