They've been discussing 1.2 launch recently, and with Jeb recently getting engaged, chances are he'd want to push out the full public launch before the plans get underway. AKA shouldn't be THAT much longer.

i don't think griefers will be a problem if you add a whitelist. only whitelist people you trust not to destroy everything you love and hold dear. you don't need to worry about me, i don't destroy things, i build MAGNIFICENT FOUR LEGGED SPIDERS OF JOY, and there's no plugin for that.

but seriously, you should just whitelist the server and add specific people. i think the main problem with the way the server works currently is that you just let anyone get builder for applying, and real griefers get thrown into the mix. if you keep it simple i'm sure a smaller population could keep itself from destroying the server. you could also do manual backups, such as making a manual backup every night, and if a griefer hits after dark, you just re-load the map to the latest nightly backup.

Fred, the problem is, with the system we have, we haven't had serious griefing problems. The only issue was at the end of the last map when everybody thought it was war. Before that, the only issue we had was Jesusfish and he's been long banned.

The closets we're getting to whitelisting is having a registration site, and so far it's done wonders to let us keep track of users, and filter the users who don't belong on the server. I'm thinking of cracking down on applications, and accepting fewer people.

I wonder if there is a trust function in this game.

There isn't, but there should be...Blockland doesn't have griefing really thanks to that simple feature.

you know that plugins won't be updated until like a week after 1.2 comes out anyway, so if you want to initially start a map you'd have to do it without all the super duper fancy plugins and whe whim bamb boom.

We're not totally clueless, despite what you may think.

A trust system in Minecraft would be difficult. The whole world is trustless blocks. Land claims would be difficult to implement efficiently.

What about placed blocks?

I feel like it wouldn't be too hard to assign ownership and trust levels to placed blocks, but I'm not sure.

In other news, I'm in a bit of trouble and won't be quick as active in keeping the topic up to date for just a little while. I'll try my best to keep you guys informed of must-know information, but for now, I hope all is going well and I'll check in as much as I can.

Example:
>Building house
>Guy runs in, places blocks
>"Damn it, loving griefers. No trust."

1.2 should be coming out soon. And now that Bukkit is part of Mojang directly, it will be directly compatible every update. Hell, in some cases Snapshots might work instantly with plugins...

It's out here's a screenshot of the map

See that small island off the coast of the mainland? That's going to be the spawn area.

With Bukkit people building Mod API, expect a few versions in the future not having a long wait for updated plugins.

When is the server gonna be up for 1.2? I feel like finding jungles and I don't like singleplayer.

As soon as a version of 1.2 is released with all expected features, and compatibility with at least our most important mods, we will update the server. We want to avoid restarting the map frequently for more updates, so if we wait just a little longer to have everything updated for a considerable amount of time, it's less of an inconvenience for you guys.

We will be updating as soon as our most vital mods are updated. Ike, you need to send that map to Kodlee somehow. If you can upload it, and post it on the Kodleeshare forums, I'll let him know he should look there.

I'll just PM you across the forums

We need a 1.2.4 patch. From what I understand, zombies and skeletons can survive direct sunlight while standing in tallgrass and flowers. Something about them reducing light at the base where the thing stands. I know this is true, because on Khorde's server, a skeleton found me while I was trying to make stuff. I quickly made a hole in the side a small hill, and waited for daytime. When day came, I kept hitting it in the legs away from the hill, but it wasn't burning. After like three hits, it was just standing still too far for me to hit camping me in loving daylight. I believe it was staying in the tall grass.

The point being, if there isn't a 1.2.4 patch, could you find a mod that fixes this for your server?

Wasn't this fixed in 1.2.3?
