I have no idea what the specifics of this case are but this doesn't make any sense.

If someone is widely known for exaggeration then that means the cable news network must have also known they were prone to exaggeration. If their goal is to provide accurate news to their viewers then why would they put someone who would intentionally give out inaccurate information on their show?

Sorry, this still makes no sense.

Here are some basic premises I think we can agree on:
Exaggerated statements are less accurate then statements that are not exaggerated.
News reporters have a responsibility to give the most accurate information to their viewers.
Exaggerated information is less accurate then not exaggerated information.

Therefore any journalist reporting exaggerated information is being irresponsible. It's a pretty straightforward argument.
