He hates change guys. What a tool

nono, what I meant was, like if you want to build a special type of server, and then if you want to host it you don't want people to be able to build whatever they want, or fly around. So you'd switch it to survival.
nooo

servers allow you to change gamemode in prefs an also each OP can handle gamemodes on individual players

I just hate how Notch's turning it into an RPG. I liked the feeling of solitude before.

You do realize Notch's ambitions were to make Minecraft an Adventure game, with a sandbox mode.

his plans were to combine roller coaster tycoon with dwarf fortress i believe.

I find minecraft extremely boring and haven't played it for more than 5 minutes at a time and I keep coming back to it once or twice a week desperately wishing I could see what everyone else sees, because I want endless enjoyment too  :panda:

It's a really simple game.

But it's hardly explained at all.

The only problem for me is that it's unoptimized. I'm still on 1.7.3 because of that. :(
Lucky bastard. I want my 1.7.3 file back.

Don't worry, you'll get the urge sooner or later. Try joining a server you've never visited before.

NEW FORUMS UPDATE: Added the new subforum "Minecraft" to the Games section

Minecraft was good until all the griefers started coming. Also, I really wish Notch wasn't adding a level system.

Now before I start talking- I do think Minecraft is still great game, but there is quite a few more cons than I originally thought IMO.
okay
For one thing, it's excruciatingly complicated just to start a server. (especially since I have little to no knowledge on networks and internet and such.) so it's hard to set up because you don't know wgat you're doing?  What did you expect?
Then, the chat is unappealing. I just don't like how there chat is set up, it's in the way, and their font is kind of difficult for me. Get a texure pack and trans the chat.
And on the servers that are up, (in most of them that I saw) you have to read a truckload of signs just to know what to do. Don't be lazy, it isn't easy but nothing worthwhile is.
And for mods, you have to go into the files (which are in a less convenient location) and you have to open minecraft.jar with winrar or something, and copy files into there, which is a hassle IMO. You can put some mods in the .minecraft/mods folder.
And you can't change from creative mode, to survival mode. I think that would be very useful a feature. You can do this in a server.../gamemode 0-1

I know a lot of these aren't that big a deal to a lot of people, but I like easy to play, simple, fun games. And Minecraft seems like it needs a lot more before it gets to that point. I just hope that the full version isn't like this. :/
