I'm willing to bet every person bitching about 'pop music and all other music is terrible recently!!!1!' is under the age of 15.
Because it's c00l to hate on popular stuff.

music is getting better. it's gotten more accessible for people to produce their own music, which means more artists in the scene. are most of them crap? yes. classic rock love is all rose tinted glasses. pop music is getting better (80s and 90s pop was MUCH MUCH worse than today's pop, trust me), rap is getting more talent in the underground scene, and if you actually bother to look outside the mainstream stuff rock is improving. not to mention almost all forms of electronic music weren't possible until the 80s, when kraftwerk worked their magic, and look at what we have now. tons of great genres, great artists, and since it's easier to produce there's a larger volume of work. modern avant garde jazz is amazing, much better than 50s or 60s jazz. the residents are still kicking ass, primus's new album is amazing, moombahton will make dubstep eat itself, breakcore is growing in popularity, and justin bieber owns forget the haters.

tl;dr stop being smelly hipsters

I'm willing to bet you are wrong.  Maybe music is getting more accesible, but what about your "classics"?
The ideas of music nowadays is all "lovey", "midless abuse of dangerous drugs" and "F**K YOU ALL"
My perception is about the impression the music gives, not the tune (though that does play a role and I have to admit that as far as that, music has improved dramatically).  If we all listen to, let's say music about... violence, it does affect how agressive people are for the worse.

True, it is getting more accesible, and catchy, and even more talented.  But what about the affects on someone's mind?

By the way, these are mug shots.

no it loving doesn't, it's their own dumbass fault if they decide to do violent stuff
music is not at fault for anything. if some dunkass kid listens to rap and decides "that sounds cool time to shoot up my school!", it's not the loving fault of the artist. it's the fault of the dambazz that decided to kill people.

mostly gotten worse, though that's a fair bunch just because of how super gay and dumb kids are now.

i haven't heard a decent song on the radio in at least 2-3 years.

Underground dubstep (Not the skrillex stuff) classic rock like bob dylan and all the rest, 90's grunge metal, heavy metal and hard rock like system of a down. All that pop stuff that your school listens to and the 70 year old administration ladies at your school play during lunch on Fridays because they think its hip is the stufftiest thing to ever come out of modern society. The beginning of the 21st century was a year of technological advancement but a year of cultural decline. Soon everyone  will be sucking the richard of government propaganda and everything will be illegal and the constitution will not exist. I'm not a super right extremist gun toting ultra religious friend and I support the legalization of Marijuana but that's pretty much were our society is heading

you will never hear a decent song on the radio ever
this is what happened during the period of classic rock

Pop and rap are the only genres that have failed over the last century, yet for some reason it's all people listen to now..

I listened to some older rap and was like "wow this is actually really enjoyable" but then I listen to crap now and I want to die.

But none the less, I don't listen to either of those, I really only listen to Alternative.
