Author Topic: House to vote on affirming ‘In God We Trust’ as national motto  (Read 9218 times)

I don't mind this very so much, but it violates the separation of the church and the state. And you know once you give "This" much to government, "They take this much."
It doesn't violate separation of church and state at all.
This in no way tells you that you must believe in god. god is in our pledge of allegiance and a bunch of other things.

But anyway, why the forget do we have a national motto? I have never heard of such a thing.

I don't know where the idea that the founders of America were all christians, they may have believed in a god but it sure wasn't what christians believe in

It's a nice motto. The founding father's would probably have preferred "In Our Creator, Country, and People We Do Trust" if anything along those lines were to be elected as the motto. But "God" is a blanket term, honestly. Though the intention is obviously "Christian" (Although the altruistic nature of this proposal could be questioned, all considering), the idea of Faith has always been a major part of American culture, so it is appropriate. The government isn't endorsing a church, it isn't becoming a theocracy, it isn't forcing anyone to believe anything. If you don't like the motto, do something about it. Have it changed. But honestly, it doesn't divide anyone at all. If your bothered by the word "God" being uttered by the government, then you may have more pressing issues to deal with than the nation's motto. It isn't unconstitutional and it certainly isn't anything surprising - American history is filled with religion and spirituality just as is the history of the entire world.

Personally, though, I think it would be more appropriate if on every dollar bill we printed there be a little note "Spend by next Thursday" with the motto "Trust Me....Please." on top.

In this post, I trust.

"In god we trust"

The irony

Robin Williams is one of my favorite comedians. :3

"One nation under Canada, above Mexico!"
I love Weapons of Self Destruction, it's so hilarious!

Oh look, American government at its stupidity.
Its not the government, its the people who want the change

I don't give a stuff about the motto but I think displaying it in all public buildings may be a tad bit much.
This

separation of church and state
not everyone believes in a single god and this country is founded on everyone being equal
this is a bad idea
representative dudes supporting this are dumb

Why can't America focus on real issues, like poverty instead of these frivolous ones like this?

This is loving stupid

In god we trust should stay for everyone.

For in america, we trust in god, not Bhudda, not Zeus, not Ghandi, God...

you're loving stupid because not everyone in america believes and "trusts" a singular god

you're loving stupid
we already knew this
