Author Topic: Absolute best laptop for $500 or less.  (Read 1442 times)

Well, let's see what you guys can find. I'm looking for the best laptop available for around 500 bucks or less for a friend of mine.

Here are a few I've found, either suggest some better ones or let me know if this would do the job:

She uses it mainly for internet, music, pictures, and school work. She's had a netbook for years and she hates it and it doesn't even work anymore, so she desperately needs a new one.

I didn't want my post to get buried under other conversation, and that topic seems to mostly be about desktops.

Get a cheap alienware. A good but cheap-ish one is 499.99$

yeah its very desktop-oriented.

and no alienware is generally overpriced. and i dont think the person even wants to do gaming so yeah.

A laptop is a computer also. Lots of people have asked for laptops too, it's just they aren't as common on this forum.

And, I have answered EVERY single request in that thread. It sometimes seems like I spend my life in there.

They are pretty neat, but that touch-pad mouse is so god awful I hate using them sometimes.

Oh, here's a review from CNET.

Conclusion
The Alienware M11x is a stunning piece of kit. It's bigger, thicker and more expensive than your average netbook, but it blows everything else out of the water with its astonishing performance. If you want a machine that's comfortable to use, highly portable and brutally quick, there simply is no alternative. Miss it at your peril.

Think before you post Ethan.

EDIT: Hopefully this can satisfy you Trifax.
Excuse me?
That's stuff for that price. YOU should do some loving research before you turn in to a little know it all cunt.

First of all, that's pounds. That makes it what, $700 or so USD? And it's only a crappy C2D 1.3GHz? What the forget are they charging for?
As well as the absolute crap GPU and the fact that it's a stuffty Dell and will become an expensive paperweight in a few months. Plus, it's only 11 inch.

Look at this:

$500, not £500, and completely better in every way. Plus it's an Acer which make better products than Dell, and it's 17 inch.

my budget laptop beats that alienware...

This is not for gaming, guys. Ethan, great recommendation. Great specs for a good price.
