Samurai 7 and Champloo are the best ones as far as I'm concerned.

A little bit more:

i don't really know if you can count movies because of course they'd generally have better animation than most regularly airing anime

Yeah i don't really cound Sword of the Stranger as a samurai anime.

But I do claim it as the definitive version of the action genre of anime.

Exactly.

Especially funny because it's 90% a comedy anime but it has better fighting animations than a big-budget anime like One Piece, where every battle is just a slideshow.

watched that movie the other day and it was great. the cat bus is creepy tho. and the big totoro has a creepy smile but it's cute anyway

I'm gonna watch spirited away and uh, kiki's delivery service, probably that movie with the little miniature girl too

Watch Grave of the Fireflies. It's not Miyazaki, but it's still Ghibli.

also Castle in the Sky/Mononoke best Miyazaki films.
