I didn't really like SAO, for one reason it tried to be a lot more then it was. Another is that the romance seemed to be written by a teenager guessing how love works. I only really watched it for the action scenes because they were loving beautiful. The only way I could really enjoy the show was if I watched it without thinking at all.

I liked the first 8 episodes of SAO

But the rest was just eugh. No other characters got any development and it got stale quick.
