Seriously though, the only time I'd ever consider the sequel being better is with Zeta Gundam, or maybe Macross 7 (debatable, I haven't finished Macross 7 and SDF is god-tier)...and with both cases, it's always a lot better if you watch the prequel first.
AO is such a massive disappointment in terms of pacing and story direction. The animation, design, and music (bar the OPs, they kinda suck...even the one by FLOW isn't that great) are fantastic, but the story is a complete mess and doesn't seem to know where it wants to go. Eureka Seven already has a nice, contained story that doesn't need a continuation...it was awesome to hear that one was coming out, but it wasn't all that great.
The first series' pacing that DOES get a little odd in some places, but its length leaves plenty of room for character development. And holy stuff, it has some of the best development I've seen.
but hey, Fleur and Elena are hot so w/e
