Author Topic: What is your opinion? Did you find Half-Life 2 too easy or too slow?  (Read 7781 times)

I'm not criticizing the realism of Half-Life 2. I just find it stupid how they add so many explosive barrels, it made the game at least 25% easier. The AI is even programmed to purposely walk near an explosive barrel, they also don't attempt to run away from a barrel on fire.

Or grenades. You throw a grenade, then, like, 5-10 seconds later, they yell: "Grenade!" And then just kinda shamble away. Overall, HL2 was really, really easy for me. It's not a terribly difficult game, but the plot is really good, so I try not to nitpick.

i liked how in Half life 1 you through a grenade and the military would scram i would use that to my advantage and get them near a barnacle and they would die lol or i would kill it and let em fall....

Here's how i see things

Half-Life 1:

The story: The story to Half-Life 1 was ok but could've had more to it,

Game-play: it felt more like a mindless *shoot everything and keep moving forward* game but there was some fun to it, platforming, SOME puzzles but not the 5 seconds to solve it, puzzles.

The enemies(not all):

  • Soldiers - They stand there (move if there's a nade though) and keep shooting with their smgs which have 50 rounds in them, they have much better accuracy then the combine but relatively easy to kill.
  • Alien Slaves (vortigaunts)- Weaker then the soldiers attack the same way (just stand there, sometimes move if you throw a grenade)
  • Assassins - loving annoying, hardly ever stop moving constantly moving and jumping like 10 feet in that air but have low health.
  • Alien grunts - They chase you down, shoot their hornet guns to have the hornets (or bees) go around corners, sometimes run up to melee you, Well armored but a headshot with a revolver can usually insta-kill them.
  • Alien Controllers: Floating enemies who shoot homing balls of electricity at the player, dangerous in groups but not too hard to take down
Half-Life 2:

The Story: Story was much better done then in Half-Life 1 but there were many places where it was just run and gun

Game-play: Pretty straight forward but with the new physics engine and gravity gun tool/weapon it became somewhat more fun, but it still had that *Shoot stuff and keep moving* at least some objectives were put in but still about as much as Half-Life 1, NPC interaction was much better but the endless ammo and medkits was overdone.

Enemies:

Metro-Cops: Very easy enemies to kill, they do a lot of standing around, have poor accuracy and aren't armed with anything but a pistol, and MAYBE an smg.

  • Combine-Soldiers(Prison guards too): They also do a lot of standing, move around a bit but are better armed then the metro cops, they usually have smgs and grenades, sometimes a shotgun and a sniper rifle (stationary though) and te occasional ar2 (but they won't use the secondary attack)

  • Antlions: Fast enemies that have low health but a strong melee, they usually attack in groups, can be easily knocked down with a blast from the gravity gun
  • Combine-Elites: Slightly tougher then the combine soldiers and are always armed with the ar2, they don't come up until late in the game and by then aren't too much of a threat, since the character is well armed.

  • Striders: Very tough enemy, especially since only rockets can take them down, but since you have an endless supply of ammo from npcs they become easier to kill, but can still do massive damage if you're not careful.

other stuff

Half-Life 1 Great game for it's time, still fun to play, but it's a bit outdated

Half-life 2 Good game, could've been done better, i expected more, seems like the ai from Half-Life 1 was copied onto this and slightly tweaked, but it's still fun to play

I did not include zombies in either list because they are basically the same in both games -walk towards player try to hit player- yes i know there are new zombies in Half-Life 2 but it's basically the same

tell me what you think, hell copy my format and fill in stuff for like the story and enemies etc.

I just noticed the crossbow in Half-Life 2 instant kills in the body (including feet and legs) sometimes in Half-Life 1 it took two hits in just the head.

The combine health is either significantly lower or weapons do more damage, I am not even sure at this point.

You know that you can chance the difficulty right?

Do you ever take the time to read the original post? I took a picture for visual representation now.

I'm on hard mode, it is NOT hard. Half-Life 2 on hard feels like the easiest mode on Max Payne.

I don't see any harder difficulties I can go to, what do you suggest then? Switch the difficulty from hard to what?

how is the story good lol

how is the story good lol

So far from what I've seen the story in Half-Life 2 is flat.

I noticed how bad the AI handicap was last night. So this was during the airboat stuff, I was on a peer and I was alone. A combine came up behind me with an SMG, he opened fire and missed every shot at point blank range. Then he paused for a few seconds, I turned around and instant killed him with the revolver.

Do you mean the Combine Gunships?

I just noticed Max Payne 1 on the easiest difficulty is harder than Half-Life 2 on hard mode.

You already said this. Stop crying for attention

HL2 was so slow I ended up stopping before anything fun happened.
