Author Topic: What is your opinion? Did you find Half-Life 2 too easy or too slow?  (Read 7714 times)

I'm going to get this straight, I'm not bashing the game at all. I just want to hear other people's opinions and give my own.

Right now I'm playing Half-Life 2 and it plays nothing like Half-Life 1 (in fact it plays more like Duke Nukem Forever without the humor but that's another story). I've played Half-Life 1 and 2 on hard difficulty but Half-Life 2 on hard does not even come close to as hard as the prequel. I find it too easy because it feels like Half-Life 2 is dumbing down the shooting experience to meet the demands of casual player. The combine as they are trying to pursue you they hesitate between shots they also are horribly inaccurate as they usually miss.

Combine shooting method:

shoot a few rounds

pause

shoot a few rounds

pause

reload

repeat

In half-Life 1 the soldiers will shoot you on sight and they will not hesitate otherwise they also have dead on accuracy and are much harder than your average combine.

The conveniently placed explosive barrels: There must be a stuffload of explosive barrels everywhere (even a graveyard). Every time I see a barrel I just know an enemy is about to pop out. In Half-Life 1 explosive barrels were balanced as there were not many and they were only in places that made sense.

Health packs: Every one health pack you find in Half-Life 1 you will find three or four in Half-Life 2.

The puzzles: People say Half-Life 2 has some pretty nice puzzles during the airboat levels but as I recall I was just picking up objects (objects in plain sight) and put them on the end of a board/scale and I have to shift the the weight to one side so I can continue to the next level.

Unlimited ammo/grenade crates: These crates just make me become even more careless when it comes to ammo, I don't have to worry whether I need my grenades or not anymore so I can just spam some grenades, go back and refill. There are some levels where ammo is needed to advance to the next level but Valve is smart, they could of found a way to work around that somehow.

Instant kill revolver: This revolver instant kills anything in the head, but not just in the head. It instant kills in the body too, mix this with the zoom toggle feature with your suit and it's now a sniper rifle. In Half-Life 1 headshots were 1 hit kills but it was always a 2-4 hit kill weapon on the body.

I wanted to play Half-Life 2 for some serious and challenging shooting but the challenging part is absent. If I wanted to play for fun I'll play Duke Nukem Forever.

Now the reason why I like Duke Nukem Forever is because it's not a serious shooter, I can't take it seriously. Half-Life 2 plays like Duke Nukem Forever but there is no humor to it, so then what is it? It's not challenging nor humorous, it doesn't seem like it can stick to one theme either.

What is your opinion? I can't honestly be the only person here who thinks Half-Life 2 is a little too easy/boring/slow/etc. I'm only up to the mines right now but so far the game left an interesting impression.

Since no one can read, before you even dare to ask "dur ur on easy mode did u no u can chang 2 hard?"

Well, I haven't finished HL2 because I'm a pusillanimous individual and I have a phobia of the entrance to Ravenholm. I definitely noticed the multitude of explosive barrels and blatancy of puzzles.

I would comment on HL1 but something about the graphics and sound effects creeps the forget out of me so I haven't finished that either.

half life 1 had an interesting premise/story and enemies
half life 2 threw all that away and introduced combine instead to try to be a military shooter

And a zombie shooter.

Lol I couldnt figure out what to do when I reached the Route Kbrown town level

That missile shooting thing always instakilled me and I couldnt destroy it :C

Hide behind the first boat and just creep enough to be able to shoot the combine's missile launcher cars. They usually miss because of the boat and it takes seconds to destroy each vehicle while being still.

Like I said, the game is a walk in the park.

There is nothing to be afraid of, most of them are weak and slow moving. They are also loud and predictable so there is no chance of surprises.

On top of that you have a few hundred explosive barrels and conveniently placed buzz saws for your gravity gun.

Did you try for the achievement where you have to go through Ravenholm using ONLY your Gravity Gun?

See, the puzzle is just taking objects and shifting the weight to lift a ramp. I don't see why people think so highly of this.

It's hilarious to watch people fail at this in Synergy and then trying to watch them squeeze multiple airboats onto a small ramp meant only for 1 at a time or shoving each other out of the way or even getting stuck while at least one person makes it over the ramp and finishes the level, meanwhile there's still a pile of airboats waiting to get over the ramp

i find Half life 1 the best Half life 2 is too easy too boring and just TOO fast paced! Half life 1 on the other hand was great and has many great mods you can get for it too! has alot of good materials.

lord tony is just being way way too elitist gamer right here

basically saying hl2 should be more like modern warfare

If you're just going to launch a dozen topics in which all about the Half-Life saga games being different from one another, then don't play the game.
