The show is targeted and created for little girls, and their parents could watch it with them (the show was not necessarily for the parents).

The show might be overall enjoyed by males, young and old, but the simple truth is that this show wasn't intended for them, but the way they made it was in a way that even they enjoyed it. Lauren Faust has said before that she was surprised when she heard of the unexpected audience the show attracted.

This doesn't make it wrong for them to watch it, enjoy it, or anything of that sort.
