Author Topic: Spec Ops: The Line - Developer commentary  (Read 1538 times)

There are a lot of shooters out there. Some just give you a gun and tell you to shoot. Others put you in a position you never want to be in and make you live it.

Spec Ops: The Line is trying to add a third idea to the shooter: give the players a choice, sometimes "damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don't" in nature, and make them deal with it. 2K Games and Yager Entertaimment are putting the burden of choice in the player's hands, something that could be one of more powerful gaming experiences we've seen, especially if what some gamers saw that E3 2010 is any indication.

The hook for Spec Ops: The Line, the latest modern-ish themed shooter to enter this fray, is horror. By that we don't mean the horror featuring the supernatural or nightmarish monsters. No, the horror in this instance is wholly the type one man is capable of visiting on another man, and, indeed, everyone and everything else in his immediate environment.

Spec Ops: The Line looks to add a whole new layer of storytelling depts to shooters when it releases sometime in Spring 2012 on 360, PS3, and PC. If you think you can handle the pressure of "The Line," don't miss it.

Other things:

Destruction

Cover system

Third person

Blind Fire

Structures under you can actually break off due to sandstorms (enemies' too. It's loving cool)

Squad mechanics (Similar to rainbow six vegas)

Unpredictable environment

Ziplines

Sand traps

You're not a bulletsponge, even on the easiest setting

Ammunition isn't plentiful

Execution system (similar to the godfather)

Ragdolls (forget yes!!!)

Flamethrowers (also forget yes!!!)

AA12 (this game is amazing)

TL;DR
Dubai gets forgeted because a huge sandstorm goes "forget your stuff" to everything.
